The Tennis Court
Finally, after nearly two years, the tennis court has been fully restored as a grass court after the heavy rains of 2010 washed out the red earthen surface. The grass is known as carpet grass (axonopus compressus) and is found throughout the tropics and subtropics where is it used as an ornamental lawn when cut but when left unattended it is used as for forage. When it is cut and rolled it spreads laterally and weaves itself into a tight mat laying low to the ground. A motorized Toro roller has been brought back into service and is being used twice a week to keep the playing surface smooth. Guests who played on it in June 2012 report that the balls bounce well. We are in the process of lining up tennis professionals to give private lessons.
For those who want to play on hard or clay courts day passes to Couples/Swept Away, can be purchased for $25.00 per person for the day.
The court is surrounded by a casuarina hedge and wind screens on both ends. You should bring your own tennis rackets and balls since there are no local sporting good stores in Negril.
