Due to the heavy rains in the Spring and Summer of 2010, the red earthen tennis court was washed out and could not be rehabilitated. Therefore, the decision was made to restore it as a grass court which it had been for more than sixty years. Since seed is not available it had to be planted by sprigs or plugs. The grass is known locally as crab grass but also carpet grass which makes for a very handsome ornamental lawn. The botonical name is axonopus compressuss and is ideal for low fertility soils. When it is rolled and cut low it is an ideal ball playing surface, cricket pitches and tennis courts. A sprinkling system is in place to ensure continuous growth. The reel lawn mower  has recently been put back into operational use and is capable of cutting the grass to a height of 1/4". It is still being hand rolled but the motorized roller is soon to be commissioned. The court is technically playable at the present time but the bounce will give players at all levels a challenge. For the more serious players,  day passes  to Couples/Swept Away can be purchased for $25.00 per person and will allow you to play on either hard or clay courts. The court is surrounded by a casuarina hedge and wind screens on both ends. You should bring your own tennis rackets and balls since there are no local sporting good stores in Negril.
