Our
Staff
Without our staff we would just be another
property anywhere in the world but here they help define it
and your experience. They are your guardians. Through
them you can glimpse the greatest cultural asset of Jamaica -
its people.

We have had some changes to our staff this
past season and we believe that we now have a great team. We have a new "Miss P" who has stepped into her position as if she has always been here. Perhaps this can be attributed to her training at the HEART Academy. She will help you plan your meals
from the food menu and even do the shopping.
She has already proven herself to be an excellent cook who learns new recipes quickly. However, don't hesitate to ask her for traditional Jamaican
cooking especially if there is ripe breadfruit, cassava,
yam and ackee. She has recently learned how to use the fish poacher but Otis, the gardener, is giving her a run using banana leaf wrapping on the grill. He also does a great job doing jerk chicken. Belinda is a real find. Quiet, unassuming, deferential and energetic. She is right there with Miss P doing the housework and cooking.
We now have a fish monger who will deliver the catch of
the day right to the front gate. Just ask Miss P or Tony, the
security guard to call him.
Miss P and Belinda will help you with your personal
laundry as well. Even though we have a dryer, we let nature
help us cut down on the electric bills.
"Tony" Garrick is the head of security. He was in the Jamaican Constabulary before migrating to the States. Once he returned, he preferred the private sector and has been doing a great job ensuring the safety and security of the house and guests.

He carries a
cell phone at all times.

Douglas works two night per week to relieve
Tony. He is very pleasant and helpful. Notice that he is
carrying a jacket. This photo was taken in early April.

Otis has been our gardener
since the beginning of the year. He really has a love for
gardening and tends to the flowers, shrubs and lawn making
sure that the natural beauty of the place is not lost to a
relentless sun. During the winter months there is scant
rainfall and the lawn tends to get brown. With the water rate
so excessively high we have learned to accept nature's
patterns. When the sea gets rough, and it will, Otis will
be there to clean up the mess it has created by removing
stones and sea grass.
The three dogs in the yard are ever
vigilant and keep Tony and Dougie on their toes.
Bownie is now the oldest. Zeke is now five years old, he is part Rotweiler and Rhodesian Ridgeback. The newest addition to the yard is Abby, part Rotweiler and Labrador. She is growing quickly. If they are barking for
any length of time, then feel free to call Tony or
Dougie on their cell phone to make sure that they are
kept quiet and that there is no reason for their
agitation. Cell phones in Jamaica are not charged
for incoming calls.
Calvin "Benji" Ricketts has been our driver for
the past 15 years. He is a member of JUTA, an association of
tour drivers in Jamaica. His rates have remained the same
despite the fact that the price of gasoline has more than
doubled over the past several years. His Econoline van can
seat 11 comfortably but it is likely that another van will
have to join him just to carry the luggage for a large
group.

Here he is in our yard ready to take us back to Montego
Bay. The card with the logo is how you will locate him on
arrival at the airport outside in the general arrival
area.
Ask him about day excursions. He can take you anywhere on
the island especially to Black River and Y.S. Falls. He is our
"designated" driver and we prefer that you patronize him since
he has never let us down. |
